The big announcement is finally out - the
biggest cruise owner - Carnival Corporation announced the creation of a new
brand - "Fathom".
Fathom
is a completely different cruise experience - the Corporation calls it "impact
travel" - meaning that the focus of the cruise experience will be "mindful,
purpose-driven, and with an easily accessible framework for making an impact on
the wider world we live in".
Moreover, impact travel with fathom provides the opportunity to build community
with like-minded travelers, become immersed in another culture, and work
alongside its people to create enduring social impact.
The first voyage will be in April 2016 where guest will embark on seven-day
voyages from PortMiami aboard the MV Adonia, a 710-passenger vessel redeployed
from Carnival Corporation’s P&O Cruises (UK) for the start-up of the new
operation. Depending on their passions, interests and skills, travelers will
have the opportunity to choose from a range of social impact activities and
experiences both onboard and onshore that can make a difference.
The prices of the cruise will include all taxes and fees and groumd
transportation for the impact activities. The base price also includes an ocean
view stateroom.
The Fathom social impact travel will be mainly to the Dominican Republic - a
country of great beauty. Guests will explore the destination where 40% of the
population lives below the poverty line, and the average household income is
less than $6,000 . More than 3 million Dominicans don’t have access to piped
water. |
