I
had the pleasure of accompanying a client aboard the
Seabourn Legend for a tour and lunch. Remember that
this ship was originally built for the Seabourn fleet,
but for financial reasons was delivered to Royal
Viking and then to Royal Cruise Line and finally back
to Seabourn a few years ago. She was also the ship
aboard which the movie Speed 2 was filmed last year.
Now you have the history.
The Seabourn Legend carries 200 passengers in elegant
style. By far, the most impressive feature are her
staterooms. 90% of them are Category A, which are a
whopping 277 square feet. The balance are B, C and D
suites ranging in size from 400-575 square feet. They
are all furnished in light pastel colors. I noticed
that the soft goods were in excellent condition. I am
certain they refurbish on a regular basis. The
staterooms are extremely well-equipped. Each has a tv,
vcr, safe, mini bar (with real crystal glasses), hair
dryer, plush terry cloth bathrobes, walk-in closet and
the largest picture window I have ever seen. Service
and attention to detail are what sets this line apart
from the rest. Basically, you can have whatever you
want. All you need to do is ask. The staterooms are
stocked with fifths of liquor, French champagne and
other beverages of your choice, and you can have as
much as you’d like. There is butler service in all
staterooms. If you choose to dine in your room, the
meals are served course-by-course.
The dining room is single seating, and features
continental cuisine. This cruise line emphasizes the
use of herbs, rather than heavy sauces, which makes
the meals flavorful, but not heavy. There is a second
bistro-style restaurant which serves breakfast and
lunch buffet-style, and a sit-down dinner. Themed
meals are served there and the menus are chosen to
compliment the itinerary (i.e. in on Asian voyages,
they incorporate Thai, Indonesian, and Chinese
menus.) There is a Sky Bar on the top deck where you
can enjoy a casual barbecue dinner as well. If you
charter the ship (which in my opinion is certainly the
way to go) you can have a “dinner under the stars” on
the pool deck. There is enough open space to seat 200
passengers for a full sit-down dinner outside “en
pleine air”. I highly recommend the experience.
The ship’s theater features cabaret-style
entertainment and seats the ship’s compliment nicely.
Seating is on club chairs and banquettes. The
atmosphere is cozy and welcoming.
There is an additional lounge with wonderfully large
windows - perfect for a cocktail party.
Overall, the ship seemed to be in very good condition.
Now, here’s the best part ---- as Seabourn is looking
to get back into the incentive market, they have added
over forty 5, 6 and 7 day voyages to their schedules -
both in the Caribbean and in the Med. These
itineraries are perfect for incentive programs and I
urge you to take advantage of them for your clients
with healthy budgets. (This is not for the
bargain-seeker.) I have a complete list of 1998/99
sailings for the Seabourn Legend and her sisters, the
Pride and the Spirit, that I would be happy to share
with you. |
