In what will eventually be Crystal Cruises
most expensive shipyard visit to date, the company will spend in excess of
US$12m on a major refit of their ship the "Crystal Symphony". The work is
planned to commence on April 12th at
Lisbon’s Lisnave shipyard
and is planned to take 21 days to complete.
Major work include a two story Feng Shui
designed spa and fitness center which entails modifying the aft
superstructure amongst other things. Internally the current computer
center will be vastly expanded to become the new
Computer University@Sea and
a brand new Vintage Room will be added. Other areas scheduled for
complete refurbishment include The Crystal Dining Room, the library, photo
shop, public restrooms and all penthouse and penthouse suite
accommodations, as well as staterooms and soft goods.
A number of companies are involved in different areas of the work, with
the Syntax Group supervising the Crystal Spa & Salon expansion. SMC Design
will manage the refurbishment of the Computer University@Sea, the library
and all accommodations, while Clixby Associates will supervise the design
and construction of The Vintage Room.
Crystal has selected furniture from Andrew Martin, Cabas and Battaglia,
fabrics from Pierre Frey and Rubelli, lighting from Porto Romana and
carpets from Brintons. The reconstruction will increase Crystal Symphony’s
spa and fitness facility to almost 6,000 square feet, while the Computer
University@Sea will nearly double to 1,087 square feet. The completely
refurbished Penthouse and Penthouse Suite accommodations will gain custom
lamps, new hydraulic tables for in-room dining and Yamaha CD players and
DVD televisions.
