Club Med - Cancun

The Reluctant Fam Trip to Club Med Cancun.  Having been to this resort about 3 years ago prior to Hurricane Wilma I must admit I was not really in a hurry to return. However our relationship with Club Med goes back many years due to their cruise ship(s) and fair is fair as they really where persistent in that “you will be very pleasantly surprised”.

Hurricane Wilma for many, ourselves here in South Florida included, was a major disaster particularly for the Cancun area in particular. For Club Med in Cancun it was a savior! Without question Club Med enjoys the absolute best location on the Cancun strip so to speak. Being the first resort as you entire the “strip” the location enjoys two distinctively different beach views, one being of all of the action on the strip, but quite a way from their nearest neighboring hotel. The other view is looking south to an unobstructed horizon far from the maddening crowd.

Hurricane Wilma wrecked the property leaving basically only the buildings that survived the storm. Wilma also came in the middle of new owners, new management and new ideas for this age old leader in inclusive resorts that seemed to have been over taken by newer brands. The property has totally been redone at tens of millions dollars of expense and is fantastic and not just with the location.

The rooms are large and spacious by most standards and now have all of the amenities Club Med use to exclude, safes, flat screen TVs, hair dryers and excellent bathroom amenities. These rooms are sure to please most guests. One of the buildings offers slightly larger rooms and an elevated level of service with a dedicated concierge, great for smaller incentive groups.

Dining has improved dramatically as well. Club Med was known in the past for their all buffet style of service. Today you will find one buffet restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as two ala carte restaurants. The Mexican themed ala carte restaurant was great. The other one is more casual and offers a limited menu of “comfort” food. The buffets have been greatly up graded and the service was more than attentive in all venues.

In the past Club Med was known to provide wines with lunch and dinner. It wasn’t until recently that they join the other all inclusive properties and have included all beverages and open bar in their package.

Before Wilma this property catered more to singles and young couples. Today it caters to families and a more mature crowd and I don’t mean old. The days of the evening foam parties and GOs keeping a non-stop party going are gone. While the GOs are still apart of the Club Med concept they focus more on beach events, activities and making sure everyone is finding what they need and enjoying themselves but not as in your face as they where in the past.

The GOs also can offer incentive groups numerous group activities on the beach on the trapeze all at no or moderate additional expense. This property does offer one large meeting room and several smaller breakout rooms. Groups can work very well at the property having the ability to offer private dinners and cocktails in their ala carte Mexican venue which is a great location.

If you have crossed Club Med off your list of all inclusive properties I would seriously suggest you call us for the latest details. Very impressive! Their Back!
