||||||||||||||||
Anastasios ‘Tassos’ Stylianopoulos, the founder of Greek-based
Navigator Travel and Tourism Services, died last week after a long illness. He
was 78. His associates and family remember him as a man with an exceptional knowledge of issues related to international cruising and tourism in general. Born in Athens and a graduate of Panteio University, Stylianopoulos during 1961-1962 was general manager of Argosaronikos Express of the Niarchos group of companies, which brought the first hydrofoil to Greece. In 1962, he founded Navigator Travel and Tourism, which today represents Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises and Azamara Club Cruises in Greece and Cyprus, and is an excursion provider in Greece. His son, Andreas, is evp of the company. Stylianopoulos played a major role in developing shore excursions for Chandris Cruises through his partnership with Anthony Chandris. He was a pioneer of the organization and handled the shore excursions worldwide for Chandris and then Celebrity until the merger of Celebrity with Royal Caribbean. Stylianopoulos, who was a member of the Greek National Tourism Organization’s Board of Directors from 1990-1992 and a board member of the Hellenic Association of Travel and Tourist Agencies (HATTA), received lifetime achievement awards from HATTA in 2008 and more recently by Royal Caribbean for his contribution to growing tourism and the cruise industry in Greece. |
