Charterer drops World Cup stays for pair of HAL ships |
||||||||||||||||
Germany’s Moltke Promotion, which chartered two Holland America
Line vessels for the 2010 World Cup, kicking off in mid-June, has decided not to
operate the One Ocean Club experience in South Africa. Moltke Promotion
asked HAL to revise the itineraries planned for Noordam and Westerdam. The transit cruises between Europe and South Africa sold well, Moltke Promotion said, however demand for its packages during the 2010 World Cup was less than anticipated. Instead, Noordam will remain in Europe, going into a drydock originally scheduled for January 2011, then operating a long European cruise charter for Moltke Promotion from Northern Europe to the Mediterranean. Westerdam will sail to and from South Africa as planned. Both ships will operate their scheduled itineraries beginning July 26 out of Barcelona and Rotterdam, respectively. Any affected customers will be fully refunded by Moltke Promotion. ‘Our Holland America Line relationship has been excellent. While the demand for the cruise portion of these charters has been positive, the lack of sales during the World Cup period has necessitated these changes,’ said Werner von Moltke, md of Moltke Promotion. ‘Moltke Promotion has been fantastic to work with from the beginning. The company has honored all its contractual commitments, and has worked with us at every stage to resolve questions as soon as they arose,’ said HAL’s Rick Meadows, evp marketing, sales and guest programs. He added: ‘We are disappointed that they will be unable to operate as planned in South Africa, and we will ensure that the cruises Moltke Promotion will operate deliver the signature Holland America Line experience to each of their guests.’ |
