Celebrity's newest the "Eclipse is on the move

The Celebrity Eclipse, Celebrity Cruises’ newest ship, has departed the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, on its conveyance cruise. The ship is sailing along the River Ems on its way to Emshaven, Netherlands, where it will commence it sea trials, followed by a series of promotional events in Hamburg, Germany, and Southampton, England, where the vessel will be the first in the Celebrity fleet to be dedicated to the U.K. market.

This year, among those experiencing the conveyance are winners of the line’s global Eclipse of a Lifetime sweepstakes. Before setting sail, the winners, as well as a select group of travel agents and elite members of the press, had the opportunity to press the button activating the first cuts of steel that will become a permanent part of the next ship in Celebrity’s Solstice Class fleet, the Celebrity Silhouette, during a private tour at Meyer Werft shipyard.

During its inaugural season, the Eclipse will offer cruises in the Mediterranean, the Canary Islands, Scandinavia and Russia, as well as short cruises to Le Havre (for Paris), France and Cork, Ireland, all roundtrip from Southampton. The ship will sail on Caribbean cruises roundtrip from Miami, Fla., after crossing the Atlantic in November.

The Eclipse will be the industry’s first to offer the Celebrity iLounge, with a retail area offering products via Celebrity’s Authorized Apple Reseller status, and the first to present Qsine, an interactive dining venue with wine menus on personal touch screens. Like its sister ships, the Solstice and the Equinox, the Eclipse will offer the Lawn Club with real grass; the Hot Glass Show, a glassblowing show and studio developed with the Corning Museum of Glass; 10 dining venues; and varied entertainment, including shows with aerial acts.
