Coincidentally, as I write this article a SITE
survey came across my desk showing that only 8 percent of respondent indicated
they where satisfied with their current technology. The newer technology
is in high demand but few companies are making the investment in it even though
the Incentive & Meeting Events industry would like to have better access to the
latest technology.
We at Worldwide have had a policy in effect for years whereby we swap out our workstations and servers out on a routine basis to avoid expensive crashes and loss of data, at the same time our software is constantly upgraded as newer versions or better applications become available. However, this time around we are making a major investment in the very latest, state of the art technology; blades servers, virtual hard drives and thin clients in place of the usual big box workstations as well as the latest software applications. Once the new system is in place and fully tested we will standardize our VOIP telephone system and integrate it into the new system. The benefits in external access, speed and lower cost across the board will quickly allow us to recouped our initial investment and position us for the future. Our clients will not being inconvenienced during this transition as we plan on setting up the new system alongside the old and switching over during a weekend so any bugs that show up can be dealt with during a slow period.
