We do some very interesting Charters

Over the years we have had hundreds of crazy charter inquiries with most just going into that big round filing cabinet.  During the past several months we have had the pleasure to work on a charter that at first sounded really off the wall and with very little chance of ever happening.  That is until we really got to know our client and his 30+ year passion.

The client’s passion is the Titanic!  He developed the camera that has the ability to actually go into the interior of Titanic and if you have seen any recent footage of the ship you have seen his camera at work.   The gentlemen is actually a high school teacher with no travel selling experience and without a bank roll to finance a multi-million dollar charter that cruise lines normally require.

The second challenge is that he wants to place a ship over the actual wreck site on the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the ship which is April 14, 2012.  If you are familiar with cruise lines schedules they normally don’t have ships in this part of the world at this time of year.  Did you hear a ship sank there about a hundred years ago?  Quite frankly after looking around at all the possibilities for over a month I thought the project would be impossible, until.

At a recent luncheon on an Azamara ship I discussed this unique project with Bruce Setloff and several members of the Azamara team who took sincere interest in this project. After several weeks of discussions, moving 3 cruises and changing a dry dock, we came up with a plan that could work, however top management would need to sign off on this one.  A final presentation was made to Larry Pimentel and other key management members during Sea Trade last month in Miami.

Our client’s knowledge and passion about all things Titanic sold his concept and special needs to the Azamara team.  In fact I think we all are buying a cabin on this one!  It took long time relationships with Bruce and Larry, persistence on the part of myself and a very credible buyer to turn a dream into a reality.  I would like to think that all of us at Worldwide bring this type of effort to every client and every opportunity we are presented.
