Hebridean to use hub to operate possible second ship

Hebridean Island Cruises, which is part of the UK based niche cruise group All Leisure Group (ALG), will use a single hub to operate a possible second vessel rather than to operate it on itineraries that cover large parts of the globe, says Ken Charleson, sales and marketing director at Hebridean. Prior to being acquired by ALG earlier this year,

Hebridean operated a second vessel, the 4,200 gross ton Hebridean Spirit, on itineraries that embraced various continents over the year. This meant that operating expenses of the ship that has since been sold were high and the operations were also complicated.

Hebridean is looking for another vessel to complement the 2,112 gross ton Hebridean Princess that trades mainly along the west coast of Scotland. However, the second ship would enable the company to expand its itineraries to include other destinations.

If another vessel is introduced, it would operate from a hub port so that e.g. supplies could be purchased from same companies and to reduce operating expenses in other ways too, Charleson told Cruise Business Online.
