Is Cunard the best large ship cruise line? It
is if you trust Zagat Survey, the company known for its city-by-city rankings of
restaurants, hotels and more.
In its first survey of cruises, to be unveiled today, Zagat places Cunard at the
top of lines operating large ships (those carrying 1,500 passengers or more).
Runners-up in the category: Disney Cruise Line and Celebrity Cruises.
Among lines with mid-size cruise ships (those carrying 200 to 1,500 passengers),
Zagat says Regent Seven Seas Cruises is the best, followed by Crystal Cruises
and The Yachts of Seabourn.
Zagat also ranks lines operating small ships (those carrying fewer than 200
passengers) naming SeaDream Yacht Club at the top followed by Lindblad
Expeditions and Windstar Cruises.
Zagat says its rankings are based on the votes of 2,379 frequent cruisers who
had taken an average of 9.5 cruise vacations a piece. Each line was rated on
Zagat’s signature 30-point scale for five aspects of its performance -- cabins,
service, dining, facilities and shipboard activities -- with an overall score
based on an average of the five separate ratings.
Among large lines, Cunard came out on top for four of the five categories --
rooms, service, dining and facilities. Disney had the highest score for
activities.
The survey also ranks lines in more than a dozen sub-categories from
entertainment and nightlife to onboard shopping. |
