MSC Poesia Arrives for Inaugural Caribbean Season

MSC Cruises’ MSC Poesia arrived in Port Everglades on Nov. 10 to begin its inaugural season of Caribbean sailings. The ship was welcomed by local and port officials and television star and entrepreneur Suzanne Somers. “We are very excited to introduce MSC Poesia to North America,” said Richard E. Sasso, president and CEO of MSC Cruises (USA), Inc. “It is an elegant ship in every respect -- spectacular public areas, and a wealth of choices for dining, entertainment and activities, all with a style that epitomizes MSC Cruises.” Somers presented Sasso with a plaque commemorating the ship’s arrival.

The Italian, family-owned line is bringing the MSC Poesia to Fort Lauderdale for a season of three-, five-, seven-, eight- and 10-night itineraries throughout the Caribbean and to Bermuda during the winter season before returning to Europe in the spring. MSC Poesia features 1,275 staterooms, of which 80 percent are outside staterooms and 65 percent have a balcony.

During the 2009-10 season, MSC Poesia will host an extensive lineup of theme cruises. The seven-night Latin Music cruise departs Jan. 23. A seven-night comedy cruise departs Jan. 30. Other theme cruises include country music, Feb. 20, seven nights; oldies music, March 20, seven nights; Festa Italiana, April 10, seven nights; Big Band, Dec. 10, 10 nights; polka, Jan. 9, seven nights; “Baseball Greats” and big band, Feb. 27, seven-nights; and “Life Modification Cruise,” Jan. 16, seven nights.
