Swine Flu and the travel industry

Amazing what can happen in the space of a month!  Since our last newsletter went out we have been through a modern plague called the "Swine Flu" and luckily as far as anyone can tell - survived to tell the tale.

In hind sight there may have been a overreaction on behalf of the authorities in view of the mildness of the flu epidemic and the comparatively small number of people who have so far been effected by it.  It appears to have been less of a problem then the normal seasonal flu problems we have every winter.

Of course, time will tell if it peters out entirely or resurges in the southern hemisphere as a problem flu strain, or worse still mutates to something deadly and highly contagious.

However, the precautions taken, whilst preventing the spread of the strain have also wreaked havoc with the travel industry and in particular caused a huge problem in Mexico with many, many travelers boycotting Mexico entirely and suppliers cancelling cruises and travel programs.

The result has been a very serious loss of revenue not only to to the Mexican economy but also to many of us in the travel industry as well as our clients who had programs travelling over the recent weeks.

Let's now hope with the Travel Advisories been lift or commuted to something less serious our world will get back in gear and move ahead.
