Prince Albert II completes successful inaugural South America

and Antarctic season

Silversea’s new world-class expedition ship, Prince Albert II, has just completed its first programme of South America and Antarctic voyages and the season was a sell-out.

Silversea's new style of luxury expedition cruising proved popular with Australasian market, younger passengers and families.

These inaugural expeditions were extremely popular with Silversea’s experienced guests who for the first time have been able to combine an expedition experience with the all-inclusive value of Silversea, as well as attracting a new wave of first-time, younger guests.

Steve Odell, Silversea’s senior vice president Asia Pacific, commented: “We are delighted that this new style of luxury expedition cruising aboard Prince Albert II has been so well-received. These voyages have not only attracted regular Silversea cruisers looking for exciting new destinations, but they have also appealed to a younger demographic, including families.

“Australasian guests represent 15 per cent of Silversea passengers overall, but with Prince Albert II voyages this figure was slightly higher. This market has embraced the new Silversea Expeditions concept and 16 per cent of Prince Albert II’s guests were from Australia and New Zealand. We are already seeing high demand for the 2009/2010 voyages.”

During the 2008/2009 season, guests experienced the spectacular scenery and thrilling wildlife of Antarctica and the Chilean Fjords up-close. Itineraries were unstructured by design, allowing the ship to stay longer on sites of particular interest, or make detours whenever weather, nature or mere curiosity dictated. Silversea’s team of naturalists and special guest lecturers were on hand throughout the voyages to share the secrets of the pristine environment with guests.

The next South America and Antarctic season begins on 1 November 2009 with an 11 day sailing from Santiago, Chile to Ushuaia, Argentina, taking in the best of the Chilean Fjords. All-inclusive FIT cruise only fares start from US$3,297* per person, double occupancy – a saving of 50 per cent. For Group and Charter rates contact - WWTCA.
