Pimentel to head up Azamara |
|
Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. announced the
appointment of Larry Pimentel as president and ceo of Azamara
Cruises, as first reported here. The news had been circulating among
insiders since late last week.
The company confirmed Pimentel will hold responsibility for the
brand’s strategic direction and leadership, reporting directly to
RCCL chairman and ceo Rihcard Fain.
‘It is time for Azamara to stand on its own, after a successful two
years of operation,’ Fain said in a statement that credited
Celebrity Cruises president and ceo Dan Hanrahan and his team for
launching the brand.
For his part, Hanrahan welcomed Pimentel and said he looks forward
to ‘partnering with him to build on the success this brand has
already achieved, and to capitalize on its great promise.’
Pimentel most recently served as president and ceo of SeaDream Yacht
Club.
Sources told Seatrade Insider the move is part of a larger focus on
improving Celebrity’s overall performance. They also said Azamara
has been challenged in the areas of awareness and pricing and faces
stiff competition from the better established Oceania Cruises.
Pimentel will raise Azamara’s visibility with luxury travel sellers,
one source predicted. |
