Warren Titus Dies At Age 94

Warren Titus, one of the great names in luxury cruising, passed away in Marin Country, across the bay from San Francisco on July 19th at the age of 94. Titus was there at the humble beginnings of the modern-day cruise industry; he created Royal Viking Line in 1972 at a time when luxury cruising, with the exception of Cunard, had all but been destroyed by the advent of 747s. Yet Titus' then original concepts, ranging from itineraries to service, enabled RVL to thrive in the '70s and '80s, and the concept of small ship luxury cruising associated with the 21,500-ton Star, Sky, and Sea continue today long after Royal Viking Line became history.

Titus was the first president of Seabourn in 1987. When Seabourn merged with Cunard, he moved to an advisory role with Seabourn and Cunard, heading up past passenger clubs and remaining very visible with luxury cruise travelers and luxury agents (particularly on the West Coast).  As longtime friend and associate Ernie Beyl notes,"His name is virtually synonymous with luxury cruising."
