Hawaii Superferry's Alakai Departs for Mobile, Ala |
|
Hawaii Superferry’s 350-foot catamaran, the Alakai, has departed Honolulu Harbor for Mobile, Ala. The Alakai’s 7,600-mile journey will take approximately three weeks. The vessel is being repositioned for future employment, as Hawaii Superferry does not have a business opportunity in Hawaii for the foreseeable future, according to the company. Until recently, the Alakai operated daily, roundtrip service between Honolulu and Kahului (Maui). The Hawaii State Supreme Court ruled earlier this month that a bill passed by the State Legislature allowing the company to operate the ferry before the completion of an environmental impact report was unconstitutional. |
