Indian court finally clears breaking up of the Blue Lady

India’s Supreme Court finally authorized the breaking of Blue Lady (ex Norway), ending a long legal battle by environmentalists who claim the ship contains toxic waste. Blue Lady has languished off the coast of India’s Gujarat state while the legal fight played out.

The court allowed the breaking to proceed after accepting a technical expert committee’s guidelines on how to break ships without exposing the workers to harm, according to Reuters.

Established Alang shipbreakers Priya Blue Industries will handle the work. Principal Sanjay Mehta told Seatrade Insider the dismantling will proceed.

Speaking to news agency PTI, Mehta said that fears concerning radioactive material had been cleared and whatever asbestos remains will be handled ‘in the most professional manner.’

EasyCruise Grows Again

EasyCruise is going to grow next summer, actually almost tripling in size, by adding a second ship more than twice the size of its first. The line has acquired the 1981-built The Jasmine (currently sailing as Farah) and will remodel it to its needs. They will place it into service next spring on a new 7-day itinerary that will take it to Greece and Turkey.

While the Easy Cruise Product does not fit the profile required by our corporate clients, never the less one has to admire the speed in which the line has come together.  In just a few short years they have gone from a one small ship fleet to a three ship fleet with a substantial increase in capacity and interesting itineraries.
