to the Board. Richard joined the Saga Cruise board on 23rd May 2016 as a
non-executive director.
Commenting on the appointment, Robin Shaw, chief executive of Saga Cruises said:
“This
is a really exciting time for Saga Cruises as we embark on our first ever new
build cruise ship. I am therefore absolutely delighted that we have been able to
strengthen our Board with the appointment of Richard Vogel. Richard’s experience
in having managed the development of new ships will provide invaluable insight,
perspective and challenge to the Board. His appointment enhances the excellent
team we have built.”
Mr Vogel has extensive industry experience including
with AIDA Cruises, a German cruise business, which was taken over by Carnival in
2003. Before becoming CEO and chairman of TUI Cruises, Richard as Director of
Special Projects, developed TUI’s cruise business including new build ships.
Richard Vogel commented:
“I am delighted to be appointed as a member of the Board and am looking forward
to working with the senior management team to develop the long term strategy for
the future of Saga Shipping.”
Saga cruises announced in September 2015 their intentions to build a new ship to
be delivered in Summer 2019. The new ship will carry less than 1,000 passengers
and will retain the intimacy and personal touch for which Saga is renowned. All
cabins will have exterior balconies and the vessel is approximately 56,000 GRT. |
