Under the new policy, cruisers will incur
penalties further from the sailing date when canceling, effective for bookings
made on or after January 1, 2016.
Currently, sailings six days or longer canceled 56 to 75 days in advance of
embarkation guarantee passengers their full deposit back. Under the new policy,
final payment for sailings six or more days is now due 90 days prior to sailing
versus the current policy of 75 days. In conjunction with that, cancellation
penalties will now begin at 89 days prior to sailing.
Norwegian Cruise Line's deposit schedule has also shifted. Previously, for
cruises of six to nine nights, you would need to put down a deposit of $250 per
person. On or after January 1, that shifts to $250 per person for cruises seven
to nine days; cruises two to six nights only require a $100 deposit per person.
If you're booking a holiday sailing, be sure about it. Final payments for
cruises during Christmas and New Year's are due 120 days (about four months)
prior from the sailing dates, excluding cruises on Norwegian Sky.
