Regent To Build a Second Explorer Class Ship

With expectations high for this summer's Seven Seas Explorer, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings announced it will build a sister Regent Seven Seas luxury ship for 2020.

The new Explorer-class ship will be built by the Italian shipyard Fincantieri. It will have many of the high-end features and amenities that will be on 750-passenger Seven Seas Explorer, including the Regent Suite -- a 3,875-square-foot two-bedroom suite with a private vista garden, an in-suite spa, two and a half baths with marble and stone detail, and two separate wraparound balconies. The line is billing Explorer as the "most luxurious cruise ship ever."

Said Jason Montague, president and chief operating officer of Regent Seven Seas Cruises: "The extraordinary demand generated by Seven Seas Explorer, including record-breaking booking volumes, reinforced our decision to expand our fleet with an additional ship that mirrors the same incredibly high standards of luxury."

The two new ships join smaller fleetmates Seven Seas Voyager, Navigator and Mariner. Those ships are undergoing a $125 million upgrade, with refurbishments in 2016 and 2017.
