The Port Authority of Bilbao has put out
to
tender the maritime terminal on the third cruise berth at
Getxo for E5m with a
one-year completion period.
The 15m high building covering an area of 3,200m2 has been conceived as a “great
rectangular glass container, light in form and bright, protected by a light zinc
roof with six skylights to give the impression of even more brightness”
according to Bilbao Port. (Image Getxo Tourism - click to

Embarkation and disembarkation areas will be separated and have individual
access. A E1.2m boarding bridge will allow passengers direct access to the
ship/terminal. It will adapt to any vessel embarkation height and will also be
adaptable for disabled passengers.
The Port Authority has planned to provide the pier with 230 long-stay parking
lots which can also be used by the general public when there are no cruiseships
in port. There will be a further 31 parking spaces for terminal staff and eight
more for disabled people, 10 for taxis and 40 for coaches.

This
season Pullmantur has been doing turnarounds on Empress. AIDA Cruises and Polar
Cruises have both called for the first time. Overnight calls have been
increasing with Lindblad Expeditions’ National Explorer, Sea Cloud II, The
World, Crystal Serenity and AIDAbella all making the most of this northern
Spanish city. |
