Dubai’s cruise port Mina Rashid voted the best Middle East cruise port at the World Travel Awards for the eight consecutive year.

Ayman Al Shehhi, the operations manager at Mina Rashid, received the award on behalf of DP World, which operates the port, while Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, the chairman of DP World, noted that the port had been designed for the future needs of cruise ships visiting the Middle East.

“Mina Rashid Port has also increased its capacity to handle 25,000 passengers a day overall making it one of the most tourist-friendly ports in the world,” said Sulayem. “The modern infrastructure at Mina Rashid has also reinforced Dubai’s position as the leading regional cruise hub.”

The port rarely exceeds passenger throughput of 14,000 people at present, but with the Middle East cruise sector expected to double in size in the next five years, that additional capacity is expected to be utilised rapidly.

The award may be the eighth time that Mina Rashid has won in the best port category, but is also the 15th time the Dubai cruise port has been recognised at the major industry awards for the global travel industry.

The new eco-friendly and ultra-modern Hamdan Bin Mohammad Cruise Terminal at Mina Rashid, otherwise known as Terminal 3, was highlighted by judges as playing a major role in the win.
