In an exclusive CNBC interview in Sydney, new Carnival CEO Arnold Donald said that the growth markets for the company are in Australia and throughout Asia, but there continue to be challenges in Europe and the US.

He highlighted to 20% compounding growth rates in Australia, with a 3% market penetration, while also commenting that the European economy was not where he would like it to be and  of course, the challenges that the company has faced in the US, along with the US’ overall economic picture.

Echoing much of what Carnival Australia CEO Ann Sherry said at the Carnival Partnership Summit this last weekend on board P&O’s Pacific Pearl, Mr Donald painted a rather challenging world cruise picture with Australia and Asia bright spots for Carnival.
