Cruise Ship to Finish Transatlantic Sailing at Reduced Power Due to Propulsion Issues

Add another ship to the roster of those plagued by propulsion issues. P&O Cruises' Ventura, which is currently sailing across the Atlantic, is continuing the voyage at reduced speed. A statement from the line reports that the ship experienced a fault to its starboard propeller and is scrapping a call on Madeira in order to make it back to Southampton by Saturday, as scheduled. Instead, the ship will call on Ponta Delgada on March 18.

A post from P&O's Facebook page states, "We are currently working with the manufacturers and shore support to identify and rectify an issue with the starboard propulsion motor on Ventura. We can assure everyone that power and services on the ship are unaffected."

Ventura is scheduled to enter dry-dock on March 22, at the conclusion of its current voyage. As part of a multimillion-pound project, the ship will undergo the addition of 18 single cabins, an adults-only deck space (The Retreat) and a new wine and food venue featuring Enomatic wine machines. Additionally, cabins will gain new mattresses, carpets and curtains.
