Trademarks Hint at Names for New Royal Caribbean Cruise Ships |
||||||||||||||||
With a third Oasis-class ship and at least
two more from the mysterious Project Sunshine on the horizon, Royal Caribbean
International has trademarked six potential ship names. As first reported by RoyalCaribbeanBlog.com, a fan site not affiliated with Royal Caribbean, RCI has trademarked the names Anthem of the Seas, Passion of the Seas, Vantage of the Seas, Quantum of the Seas, Ovation of the Seas and Pulse of the Seas. The company filed the trademark applications November 2, 2012. While it's not clear whether any of the six names Royal Caribbean protected will be used for any of its new builds, it hints at what might be coming in the next three years. Royal Caribbean announced in February 2011 that Meyer Werft would build its next generation of ships, called "Project Sunshine." Scant details have been released regarding the project, though the timeline has the first ship being delivered in fall 2014 and a second in spring 2015. The class will be significantly smaller than the Oasis-class ships, which measure 225,282 tons and carry 5,400 passengers. It will be similar in tonnage to the line's Freedom class (154,407 tons), though it will carry more passengers, around 4,100. In December 2012, the company announced the third ship in its Oasis class would be built in France, with a delivery in mid-2016. |
