Costa Allegra is not returning to service

Micky Arison, chairman and ceo of Carnival Corp. & plc confirmed that it does not intend to return Costa Allegra to service,

The vessel, which was towed to the Seychelles after losing power in an engine room fire on Feb. 27, was already written down by Carnival and had been for sale for some time.

Whether the 1992-built Allegra will be sold or scrapped has not been decided, Arison told analysts.

The Carnival chief added the vessel had been written down to a level where the company is comfortable, even if it may get a lower sale price after the recent incident.

Vice chairman Howard Frank said that in the past year, Carnival received interest in Costa Allegra from ‘a couple groups.’
