AmaWaterways Opens Up More Group Space on Mekong River

AmaWaterways has more than doubled the available group space on its Mekong River cruises with the launch of a second ship. The new 124-passenger AmaLotus is set to debut in early September, joining the 92-passenger La Marguerite in offering seven-night cruises from Siem Reap, Cambodia, to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

“We are now in a much better position to fulfill requests for group space on this spectacular itinerary,” said Kristin Karst, executive vice-president and co-owner of AmaWaterways. “It’s the perfect choice for agents looking for an exciting, exotic experience for their well-traveled groups. We are offering one free tour conductor berth for every nine full-paying passengers. A group discount is also available, but agents should contact us now before the ships sell out in order to hold space.”

The “Vietnam, Cambodia and the Riches of the Mekong” itinerary calls at Kampong Chhnang, Kampong Tralach, Oudong, Chong Koh, Phnom Penh, Tan Chau, Sa Dec, Xeo Quyt and Cai Be. The vessels spend two nights in the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh. The cruise includes guided shore excursions, onboard entertainment, plus complimentary wine, beer and soft drinks with lunch and dinner. The vessels feature a decor that combines French Colonial elegance with regional Khmer accents. The AmaLotus features 624-square-foot suites, 10 290-square-foot junior suites and standard staterooms that measure 226 square feet. The ship has balconies on 90 percent of the staterooms.

The staterooms, junior suites and suites aboard La Marguerite range in size from 226 to 452 square feet, with more than 82 percent featuring outside balconies. Stateroom amenities on both ships include sitting areas, individually controlled air-conditioning, mini-bar, safety deposit box, shower, separate tub in junior suites and suites, bathrobe, slippers and hairdryer. Public areas include a restaurant serving Asian and Western food, a panoramic lounge and library, a gift shop, a fitness center and spa. The Sun Deck includes an outdoor swimming pool and bar.
