Lisbon,  a hot destination this year

With the European summer season barely started Lisbon received four cruise ships in one day. the Saga Pearl II, NCL Sun, Black Watch, Wind Star.

Lisbon - the capital city of Portugal rightly deserves the attention it is receiving, it is a delightful city with lots of history behind it.

The main square and around the waterfront hosts numerous excellent restaurants, night clubs. Just along the coast to the north is the beach resort of Cascais and a few miles in land are located many of Portugal's castles,  a number of them converted to luxury hotels.

Portugal as we all know is going through some tough financial times as are many of its Europan competitors for the tourist dollar, but value can be found here.  Prices are still reasonable if not cheap if one shops wisely, restaurants offer fresh seafood meals at prices that restaurants in the US cannot get near.. choose the daily menu for 3 & 4 course meals with wine for prices that even in our devalued dollar terms are low and don't forget that the tip is already included.

This summer promises to be Lisbon time - if you want a different itinerary which visits some great places - look at one that includes the Atlantic Coasts of Spain Portugal and France - get away from the Med. crowds and all that craziness.
