Tauck’s newest riverboat, Treasures, was christened on Aug. 10 in Cologne |

 Tauck’s
newest riverboat, Treasures, was christened on Aug. 10 in Cologne, Germany, by
Robin Tauck, former president and CEO of the company. The ceremony took place on
a sunny day with the twin towers of Cologne Cathedral looming in the background.
The riverboat’s hull was built in Serbia and interiors were completed in
Holland. Tauck now has four nearly identical ships in its European riverboat
fleet — Swiss Emerald, Swiss Sapphire, Swiss Jewel and Treasures. All four are
managed by Scylla, the European riverboat company, but all tours and onboard
experiences are provided by Tauck, with two Tauck tour directors and a cruise
director on every sailing.Treasure, which carries 118 passengers and a crew of 29, is 110 meters (361 feet) long and 11 meters (37 feet wide). There are three decks — Diamond, Ruby and Emerald — plus a Sun deck. There is a large Panorama Lounge with bar and dance floor suitable for lectures (five large HD video screens are located strategically around the lounge). The riverboat’s main dining room on the Ruby deck and another smaller Lido serving snacks and light breakfasts on the Diamond deck in the stern. The largest suite categories (measuring 300 square feet) are located on the Diamond Deck, with other suites on the Ruby and Emerald decks. Tauck’s European cruise programs for 2012 include the 10-day French Waterways & Vineyards, cruising the Rhone River; the 14-day French Escapade: Monte Carlo to Paris, sailing the Rhone and Saone rivers; the 12-day Blue Danube, cruising the Danube River; the 12-day Musical Magic Along the Blue Danube, cruising the Danube River; the eight-day Blue Danube: Family Riverboat Adventure, cruising the Danube River; the 15-day Budapest to Amsterdam by Riverboat, cruising the Danube, Main and Rhine rivers; the 13-day Rhine and Moselle, cruising the Rhine and Moselle rivers; the 10-day Holland & Belgium Featuring Floriade (the world horticultural exposition), cruising the Albert Canal, the Maas and Rhine rivers; the 12-day Budapest to the Black Sea, cruising the Danube River; and the 24-day Grand European Cruise, cruising the Rhine, Main and Danube Rivers. Treasures will sail on the Blue Danube, Budapest to Amsterdam by Riverboat, Belgium & Holland Featuring Floriade, Budapest to the Black Sea, and Grand European Cruise itineraries. |
