Carnival Corp. considering ordering newbuild for

delivery in 2014

Carnival Corp. & plc is likely to place an order during 2011 for a newbuild delivery in 2014, vice chairman and coo Howard Frank told shareholders at the annual meeting today in Southampton.

So far, Carnival has just one newbuild on the books for 2014 delivery, for Princess Cruises.

Frank did not elaborate on the order, or the brand. That Carnival would order more capacity for 2014 is not surprising and a second vessel is still in keeping with the company's stated plans to maintain a slower growth rate going forward.

Carnival is adding four new ships this year, with AIDAsol having just entered service and Carnival Magic, Seabourn Quest and Costa Favolosa to come. In 2012 it has three newbuilds (Carnival Breeze, Costa Fascinosa and AIDAmar) and, in 2013, two (an unnamed AIDA ship and Royal Princess).
